Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation

I dove into Alien Isolation with a little of caution, I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews that rated the game from phenomenal to sub-par.  It seems like the game requires a good amount of patience and an open mind about how it should be played.  Depending on the type of person who played the game, they either loved it or became irritated by the endless trial and error combined with the surprisingly extended length.

Currently in Southern California we are getting a typical stretch of nice warm weather in the heart of Winter. This week the days have been getting into the 70’s and 80’s outside. The warm weather always gets me into our yard to see what needs to be done.

Usually game publishers make a big effort to have their big AAA titles released before the Thanksgiving holiday break to catch the huge Black Friday sales. If they can’t make the date, then you’ll often see them push the game out a few months, usually to March.

I never played any of the previous Hitman games. They have a bit of a cult following for the bad ass bald Agent 47 character and unique gameplay style. For some reason the previous entries didn’t appeal to me or maybe at the time of their release there were too many other great games vying for my attention.

In a time when big game publishers are more concerned with cashing in on well established franchise with their annual or bi-annual sequel, it is becoming more and more rare for new original ideas in gaming to get developed and released. Dishonored is one of the few original intellectual properties for 2013.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is fantastic. I’ve been hooked on it since the first and completed each one. However I have felt that they are releasing them too often. I get the publisher, Ubisoft, is trying to cash in on the popularity of it, however it will succeed more with some breathing room and anticipation between releases. I didn’t play Brotherhood until about 6 months after its release, and the same with Revelations.

Vegan Lentil Chili

Last night I made a big pot of delicious lentil chili that turned out amazingly yummy. I saw the original vegan lentil chili recipe over on the Whole Foods Market site, but I made some adjustments to it which I feel enhanced the flavors and made it even better. As a vegetarian, lentils provide a great source of protein and fiber, in addition to being really healthy for our bodies. This is a very simple recipe that leaves plenty of room to experiment in making your own favorite style.

Lentil and Kale Veggie Salad

A few nights ago I made a delicious salad using black lentils, fresh kale, and veggies. I was really experimenting with what we had a home along with a few fresh ingredients from the farmers market. I had a package of bamboo roots from the asian market which are a little like artichoke hearts or hearts of palm but firmer, I combined it with farm fresh carrots, cucumbers, and feta cheese to make for a nice earthy meal.
