November Rain

It’s been a while since my last wallpaper post. I’ve been distracted with a few things in life. Today we got a nice rainy day. I’ve missed the rain and welcome the Fall and Winter weather this season. Today reminds me of my time living in Seattle. We’d get nice rainy days like this for weeks at a time, which would drive some people nuts, but I always embraced the weather and appreciated it for what it was.

The warm Summer weather has finally kicked in at our home. This week we’ve hit over 100° degrees each day of the week. While it makes for hot days, once the sun starts to go down the evenings are awesome, turning to nice warm nights to enjoy outside in the yard. This week while doing a little bit of yard work as the sun was starting to set, I noticed one of our hanging succulents had this beautiful little orange and white flowers starting to open up.

This week we cleaned out our backyard and setup our Summer room so we can enjoy our meals and relax outside in the beautiful Southern California weather. We also did a bit of gardening and released 1500 ladybugs throughout our garden and yard. Also known as ladybird beetles or lady beetles as they are considered to be a part of the beetle family, but in America they are most commonly known as ladybugs.

One of our aloe succulent plants has grown to be very large and oversized over the years. Each year in the Spring, a huge stalk grows out which then branches off into a crown beautiful flowers. One that is very unique with several stages to create delicate textures and colors. Once they open up we get humming birds coming for the honey.

What is it about gardening that makes us so happy and peaceful? My entire life I’ve always found spending time planting and caring for plants to be soothing for my soul. I can spend hours out in the sun, even in poor weather, but especially in the sun, tending to my garden and slowly watching it grow over time.

Spring is officially here today and it’s already showing itself off in our garden. Our fruit trees are starting to get their first flowers which will eventually turn into fruit. Here are two photos from our trees, the first is from our purple cherry plum tree that eventually has those deep purple leaves with lots of little plums that are the size of a cherry, they are very sweet.

A few months ago I picked up a Bonsai-Tuscan Miniature Olive Tree from wine.woot.com. At first I had it in the house but it quickly started dropping leaves, so then I put it outside in our backyard and it seems to have stabilized and is doing much better.

Somehow I missed this image in my export from Lightroom from earlier in the week. This morning when walking our cat Jäger around our backyard garden, I was looking at this blossom and I realized that I didn’t include it in the desktop posts for February.
