This weekend we attended the 34th Annual Wild Wild West Marathon that took place in the foothills of Mt. Whitney in Lone Pine, California. A trail race event that has four different run distances; a 5k, 10 mile, full marathon at 26.2, and a 50k marathon. A challenging trail course with some good elevation going from around 5,100 feet at the start, to 6,500 feet on the second peak, all the way down to 3,700 foot elevation to the finish line.

Today we visited the Hsi Lai Temple to pray and enjoy their vegan lunch. While we were there I snapped off a few photos with my Nexus One phone. Surprisingly the one I took of the large Buddha head in the parking lot turned out really good. I imported the photo into Adobe Lightroom for some color correction and apply an aged treatment to it, then I brought it into Adobe Photoshop and had the idea of blending it with a sunrise photo I took from my run a few days ago.

This week we cleaned out our backyard and setup our Summer room so we can enjoy our meals and relax outside in the beautiful Southern California weather. We also did a bit of gardening and released 1500 ladybugs throughout our garden and yard. Also known as ladybird beetles or lady beetles as they are considered to be a part of the beetle family, but in America they are most commonly known as ladybugs.

What is it about gardening that makes us so happy and peaceful? My entire life I’ve always found spending time planting and caring for plants to be soothing for my soul. I can spend hours out in the sun, even in poor weather, but especially in the sun, tending to my garden and slowly watching it grow over time.

This past weekend we attended two running race events, back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday. At first I wasn’t sure if I could handle two races in a row, but now that I’ve completed both I can say that I’m glad we did it, we had a lot of fun. Even though I’m sore this morning it was a good challenge to push my body further into better shape and it made for a great experience.

A few months ago we started watching the TV series Lost. We never watched it when it was on TV, we usually prefer to watch shows once they are available on DVD or Netflix, that way we can enjoy them without the commercials and frequently in bursts several episodes at a time. Last night we finally finished the last season of Lost.

Mountain Biking

Over the last few years I picked up mountain biking. I used to go bike riding regularly years ago, but it was always road riding on bike paths along the beach or paseos, never any real off-road “mountain bike” riding. That is until a few years ago when I decided to pick up a decent full suspension mountain bike and got serious about finding some real trails to ride, not paved paseos, but real hills to climb and single lane dirt trails to ride down. Out in the wilderness away from the concrete jungle.

Today on February 12th 2012, I participated and completed my 8th 5k event run in the 34th Annual Firecracker 5k/10k Run, located in our very own Chinatown in the City of Angels (as I like to call Los Angeles). It was a great run and we had a lot of fun. They also have a 30 mile and 20 mile bike ride on Saturday (day before the run) that I was going to sign up for but it was sold out. I’ll definitely participate in it next year as I’m looking for more bike events, especially any mountain biking events.

I was introduced to dailymile by my wife Jenny, she had used it for about year to track her running. I started using it and tracking my miles back in December of 2010. At first I was using it to track my mountain biking miles.
