Yesterday I spent most of the day in the garden, preparing and planting some seasonal vegetables and fruits that will grow over the next 3 to 6 months. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year to be in the garden, it’s when life begins to push itself out of the dormant trees, vines, and plants, they start reaching for the blue sky and warm sun, ready to grow and transform our garden into a beautiful lush paradise.

Being able to find and hone-in on our inner peace is essential to keeping ourselves in balance while remaining in focus on our path in life. As believer in Buddhism, throughout my life I’ve strived to keep my inner peace regularly active. I feel it helps me be a better more caring person in life. Everyone finds their own inner peace through different means, but there are many common elements that help us achieve it.

Last week my wife Jenny told me she wanted to watch a movie with me that was on YouTube called The Secret. She said pull it up on the big screen TV. I thought, a YouTube video, this should be quick, I pulled it up on the TV through our Apple TV. At the time I wasn’t expecting to watch a 90 minute movie, I was busy selfishly entertaining myself with Borderlands 2. So I was a little grumpy when I learned it was a 90 minute movie. However my attitude quickly changed once I realized the importance of this film.

This week on September 20th of 2012, I turned 42 years old. As my brother Antero the astrologer says, I’ve completed another lap around the Sun. Like a spec of dust in our infinite universe, I am simply a passenger along for the ride of this thing called life, a life that continues to move forward with or without us.

Today we visited the Hsi Lai Temple to pray and enjoy their vegan lunch. While we were there I snapped off a few photos with my Nexus One phone. Surprisingly the one I took of the large Buddha head in the parking lot turned out really good. I imported the photo into Adobe Lightroom for some color correction and apply an aged treatment to it, then I brought it into Adobe Photoshop and had the idea of blending it with a sunrise photo I took from my run a few days ago.

On January 7th Jenny, her mom May, and I went to the Hsi Lai Temple. It was the 16th day of the Chinese new year in the year of the Dragon. They had special new year decorations all around the temple. We enjoyed the vegan buddhist lunch and prayed in the temple and threw some wish ribbons on the wish tree.
