My Favorite Music: Series Introduction
Often when I’m listening to my music around friends, family, and peers I often get comments about how they like my music selection and usually wondering what I’m playing. While some of my music selection is easily recognizable, a lot of it is not.
Top 10 Music Albums of 2011
It was a mildly decent year for new music, while a few albums stood out for me, it seemed like there were fewer albums that really amazed me. The electronica and hard rock/metal genres were lacking this year with only a few exceptions.
Low: C’mon
Low is one of those bands that can take a good amount of time to warm up to before you really start to enjoy their music. Low’s music and signing style falls into a genre called slowcore, characterized by slow tempos and minimalist arrangements, a subgenre of alternative and indie rock.
Nerina Pallot: Year of the Wolf
I recently discovered an online magazine called Wears The Trousers, a site dedicated to promoting female musicians and artist. They seem to have a talent for finding all types of music and artists that you’ve never heard of, as well as a few that you might have heard about. They are good source for discovering new music.
R.E.M. Calls It A Day
On September 21st 2011, R.E.M. announced that it has decided to call it a day as a band. They have disbanded. I saw this posted on Facebook and immediately I was bummed. I always felt like I was late in learning about the band and getting into their music. Many people have a strong connection to their early albums when they started out as a young college band.
Top 10 Music Albums for 2010
2010 was a surprisingly good year for new music. There were some really good surprises that have renewed my faith that great music can still be made. Here are my top 10 albums for 2010.
