Alien Isolation

Alien Isolation

I dove into Alien Isolation with a little of caution, I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews that rated the game from phenomenal to sub-par.  It seems like the game requires a good amount of patience and an open mind about how it should be played.  Depending on the type of person who played the game, they either loved it or became irritated by the endless trial and error combined with the surprisingly extended length.

Titanfall has changed the playing field for multiplayer shooters. Now I’m no expert, in fact, this is coming from a gamer has often prefers playing single player campaigns more than multiplayer games with the exception of a few select games.  However I almost always give the multiplayer portion of games a fair chance to see if it has the magic to pull me in and keep me coming back for more.  Titanfall has that magic and I don’t want to stop playing it anytime soon.  It is just too much damn fun!

Last night I completed one of the best action adventure games I have ever played. As much as I wanted to savor and spread my gameplay time over a few weeks, I could not stop playing The Last of Us.

Usually game publishers make a big effort to have their big AAA titles released before the Thanksgiving holiday break to catch the huge Black Friday sales. If they can’t make the date, then you’ll often see them push the game out a few months, usually to March.

I never played any of the previous Hitman games. They have a bit of a cult following for the bad ass bald Agent 47 character and unique gameplay style. For some reason the previous entries didn’t appeal to me or maybe at the time of their release there were too many other great games vying for my attention.

In a time when big game publishers are more concerned with cashing in on well established franchise with their annual or bi-annual sequel, it is becoming more and more rare for new original ideas in gaming to get developed and released. Dishonored is one of the few original intellectual properties for 2013.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is fantastic. I’ve been hooked on it since the first and completed each one. However I have felt that they are releasing them too often. I get the publisher, Ubisoft, is trying to cash in on the popularity of it, however it will succeed more with some breathing room and anticipation between releases. I didn’t play Brotherhood until about 6 months after its release, and the same with Revelations.

Gotta hand it to Rockstar, after so many years since the original Max Payne game they go out and bring the game back to life in a full on reboot. I have to admit, at first I wasn’t sure that they were going to pull it off, but after completing the game, impressively enough, they pulled it off and knocked it out of the park. They retained the classic elements while elevating the game with stellar action driven gameplay and a remarkably good story to keep you captivated through to the end.
