The Great American Political Standoff

We The PeopleWhat is wrong with politicians these days? Why can’t they all just learn to leave their personal agenda out of politics and agree to do the right thing for the greater good of all Americans. I think that most politicians have become so blinded by their own ignorance and greed that they have forgotten why they are really there in the first place. Its us, we the people who elected them to lead for us, we give them the support and faith that they will make the right choices for our country and the world to be a better place for everyone. Not get stuck on disagreeing to the point that nothing gets done.

What ever happened to doing the right thing for the greater good?

Isn’t that what being a political leader is supposed to be all about? Doing the right thing for the greater good of our nation? Somewhere over the last decade this vision has been lost in our government. The worst part of it is that it’s the rest of the nation that suffers from the lack of this fundamental value.

I get it, we all have our different perspectives on how things should be, but at the same time we have to be willing to come to an agreement on doing the right thing for the people and country. Our views on what is the right thing isn’t really that different from each other, there is a lot of commonalities in there that can be agreed upon. That means you don’t always get what you want, but you get the important matters through that will have a positive effect for the people of this country.

All the parties, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and others are guilty of fucking it up and creating the biggest gridlock in history. Not to mention the corporate greed that is influencing and corrupting the politicians. While all the politicians continue to stand by the sidelines pointing fingers until an election that will supposedly provide some form of hope or victory to change things into their favor. You think it’ll change then? It won’t. The gridlock and standoff will continue unless everyone is willing to change. In the mean time the rest of the world is going to shit and its the people that are suffering and getting the shaft. Not just in America, but throughout the world.

Occupy The NationOverall the Occupy movement, even the Tea Party to some degree, their ideals seemed to be on the right path, but the execution of it was not effective. Our government and corporations need to have a ground breaking fundamental change in how it thinks and operates. The personal agendas and greed need to be tossed out the window and a new thought process needs to be injected in. One that is always thinking about the betterment of the country and its people as a whole. I know its nieve to think that people can do this, but it’s what needs to happen or it will all self destruct. There are leaders and people that do think like this, and more people, especially the politicians and much of corporate America, need to make an effort to change their way of thinking and doing things.

They need to take some time to reflect upon what we have in our world and our lives, be grateful for it, and then start thinking about how to keep it, protect it, and make it better for everyone. Not just for themselves, but everyone. If they can’t think about the nation when making decisions, then get out of the way and let someone who can take your place.

Make a conscious effort to do the right thing for the greater good of the nation.

Change is the biggest thing we all fear, it’s a big part of the gridlock we’ve experienced over the last few years. Change is good, its important to think bigger and out side of the box, but you’ve gotta take small steps first to overcome those bad habits and be open to learn and grow. To me, I think this is one of the hardest challenges as most politicians are older folks. Often, older folks tend to think they know everything and they don’t like the idea of change or growing (other than their pocketbooks). Plus they are not out there witnessing or experiencing what is happening to the rest of the nation. They see our world from a very narrow perspective and they forget what really matters.

Now I’m not saying all politicians or corporations are bad, I know the reasons they got into politics was to help build a better community for their home town, which in turn lead to their state, and eventually the nation. Their hearts were in the right place, but over time they’ve lost that vision. How can they get that vision back? Clear out the corruption and greed to see that powerful vision of making a better world that helps everyone. That is the biggest challenge, its like they could all use a giant slap that wakes them up from this nightmare that is becoming a reality.

There are some corporations that are doing the right thing. I see it in my work at Beachbody. We are helping the world fight obesity with healthy fitness programs like P90X, Insanity, TurboFire, and nutritional products like Shakeology. I see the results people get from using our products, it changes their lives for the better, they lose weight, get in shape, and start eating healthy because of what we offer. Our world needs more companies like Beachbody, who’s core purpose is to help people achieve their goals and enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life. They achieve this by following these four core values:

  1. Commit and deliver on your promises.
  2. Treat people with respect and be courageously forthright.
  3. Take initiative to improve everything.
  4. Work with passion, enthusiasm, and common sense.

That is the right type of vision for a company and the nation.

I’ve never been big on patriotism or waving the American flag. I’m not a prideful person. However I am very grateful to live in a nation and world where we have freedom of choice to be who we are and do what we want. For the most part you can say that about any place in the world these days (most of it, I didn’t say all), but especially in the United States of America, it screams freedom of choice.

I suppose that’s why I’m ranting here, its frustrating to see all this happening or not happening. You can see the world is slowly turning to shit and self destructing. Yet the leaders of this world, both politicians and corporations, have the power to change it for the better. Some are doing the right thing, but not enough of them. We need everyone to get on the same page.

Our nation, our planet earth, let's take care of it togetherWe all want to be a part of that dream, to have the opportunity to live the life we want, and to share that life with the ones we love. Plus allowing everyone to have that opportunity available to them, regardless if they utilize it or not.

While I’ve tended to be more of a liberal throughout my life and more often voted Democratic, however I’ve never committed to saying that I’m a Republican, or a Democrat, or an Independent. I’ve always gone with what ever party or person is closest to doing the right thing and being a good person that will do what is right for the greater good of our nation. These days spotting that good honest person that truly cares about the greater good of our world is becoming a challenge to find, regardless of their party. Unless there is some drastic wakeup call that affects everyone I don’t know if we’ll see a change until it’s too late.

Jenny just shared this video with me and I think it’s a perfect ending to this post.

What do you think? Are you frustrated with the ignorance of our leaders? Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my rant and please feel free to share your thoughts by commenting below.
